History of GameWiki

In March 2006 I decided to create a small wiki about The Elder Scrolls IV game. The fantastic possibilities a wiki offers, showed me that just making this for one game, would be kind of a waste. I had created guides for many other games, so why not just create a wiki like this for all games? And so it began. GameWiki was the logical choice, but all names were taken. So after talking to the former owner of GameWiki.net he agreed to hand the domain over to me, for which I am still very thankful for. With the help of MedaWiki as software this page went online quickly for the use of everyone.

In February 2008 I rekindled some ideas and started adding more content. Some users have added random content all over, so I decided to add some more logical content into this by adding a few structures, such as better templates and categories.

April 2008 was a large influx due to the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and the guides posted here about it.

July 2008 brought another change. The Tools page has been created and the first tool is the game creator. It is far from perfect but gives me a good base to create more tools in the future. I tried to make it part of the wiki itself but could find no secure or flexible enough way to do it. Many more people have joined and are adding or editing content.
