Radar

After progressing a bit in the game starting with only your Octocamo and your Stunknife, you meet up with the Metal Gear Mk.II, which is piloted by Otacon. He'll give you a few items, including the Solid Eye. With this eye equipped, you finally get your radar back. I know you'd been missing it from the previous Metal Gears. The Solid Eye piles the Scope, the Night Vision Goggles, and the Thermal Goggles all into one. You can switch between the modes whenever you like. Like the previous games, you can pretty much only see things like booby traps and claymores when you have the night vision (NV) mode on.

Even though the Solid Eye is strapped to your face, you still have to unequip it to use any other item. Lame. The same thing applies to the Stealth Camouflage and the Bandanna. I guess it would be like cheating if you could have all that stuff equipped at the same time. Meh.

Anyway, your radar shows anything living (whether it's people or animals) and its proximity to you. It doesn't show elevation. There are only a few times where an enemy could be above or below you though, so it's not a big deal.
