Camouflage

Snake's default outfit is the Octocamo.

This suit is not nearly as cool as the Stealth, but it's close. If you press against the side of something, or lay down, the outfit will change its color and pattern to mimic Snake's surroundings. This helps you quite a bit when you're hiding, but it's probably better that most guards are very nearsighted as well.

With or without the Solid Eye, your percentage of camouflage is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. The higher the number, the more hidden you are.

When you're standing, that's when you're the most exposed (naturally). Usually, you can gain about ten percent if you crouch, and anywhere fron ten to forty more on top of that if you lay down. You get even more if your Octocamo is set on "Auto" and you let it adjust to the surroundings, as in the picture below. If you move in any position, you lose around tenish percent. So hold still if enemies are close. Hiding in the shade or the dark helps a lot more. It also helps to lean up against a wall or object. You'll get a little icon to press the triangle button if you're able to do so.

If you lightly hold the left stick while Snake is lying, he will do this creepy motion where he slithers forward. In this fashion, you can move without lowering your camo number. I call it creepy because with that tight outfit on, I don't really want to see Snake's butt rippling up and down right in my face. Maybe I should move farther away from the television.

Outfits

During the course of the game, Snake can wear several outfits. Situational outfits can help you if you're in that particular environment, such as the Rebel outfit, but most of the time, they're just fun. Taking on multiple Geckos is way cooler while you're wearing the Suit instead of the Octocamo.

Anyway, here's the list of all the outfits you can get, and how to get them. I'll get pictures of them all when I can, but for now, I've only got words.

Altair
Yes, it's Altair from the Ubisoft hit, Assassin's Creed. To get this outfit, you must also earn the Assassin Emblem. This is acquired by completing the game with twenty-five or fewer alerts, plus more than fifty CQC holds and more than fifty Knife kills.

Civilian Disguise
You get this automatically at the start of Act III. Why don't I look as cool in a raincoat?

Corpse Camo
You get this by completing the game with forty-one or more continues.

Middle East Militia Disguise
You can find this in the Militia Safehouse in Act I.

South American Rebel Disguise
You get this during Act II in Cove Valley Village.

Suit
You get this cool outfit after finishing the game once.

Facecamo

Facecamo is first gained automatically from the boss fight at the end of Act I. The original Facecamo is just a face mask that does the same thing as your Octocamo suit. With this, you can get a 99% camo number with the right cover.

In addition, you can also get multiple different masks for you to wear. Those don't do anything at all except for change your appearance. Only the plain Facecamo helps you hide.

Here's a list of all the different masks you can get, and how to get them. Be warned, none of the Beauty masks are as hot as you hope. They all wear some kind of strange, Raiden-like headgear.

Big Boss
You get this one if you can complete the game and attain the Big Boss emblem. You get this emblem by finishing the game on Big Boss Extreme difficulty, with no continues, no recovery items, no alert phases, no kills, without using the Stealth or Bandanna, and in under five hours.

C. Beauty
Defeat Crying Beauty using non-lethal methods.

MGS1 Snake
It's Snake from Metal Gear Solid 1! Were the graphics back in 1998 really this bad? I don't remember. Anyway, you get this at the start of Act IV.

Otacon
During the Act X Mission Briefing, pilot the Metal Gear Mk.II and ram into Otacon with it. It has to be the person, not his chair.

R. Beauty
Defeat Raging Beauty using non-lethal means.

S. Beauty
