Grand Theft Auto IV/Weapons Guide
From GameWiki
In GTA4 you are getting a lot of weapons to play around with. This list should help you find out which one is for you and for which purpose. You can buy these for the prices labeled at the weapons shops all over the city.
Once you're friends enough with Little Jacob, he will make lots of weapons available to you whenever you wish. No matter what time of day, he will always answer the phone when you call him for "Guns". You can even call him during missions when you're on your way somewhere.
To note, not all the weapons will be available from Little Jacob at first. Only what you've been given in the game. After you're supplied a particular weapon in a mission, it becomes available in his boot. Even if you already have an advanced weapon that you picked up from a fallen enemy or criminal, it won't be available until you get it in a mission. On the list that follows, the price from Little Jacob will be listed as "($XXXX LJ)". Always buy from him! You'll save a mint!
One large difference between GTAIV and any of the GTAIII series, is that when you upgrade within weapon types (Handgun to Desert Eagle for example), your ammo carries over this time. You don't lose your thousand rounds when you upgrade guns. Whew!

To help, since these are so expensive and so handy, here are the three locations where you can pick up an RPG for free. These don't have a red/orange halo on them unless you're really close, so I've got pictures, yay!
Location 1: Castle Gardens
Accessibility: Helicopter or boat.
Description: At the seaside of the construction site. The eastern most... uhh... "dock" thing. Down on the inside. You can park a boat near the edge and jump up, or you can break the rotor off a helicopter to get it. Not accessible by foot (or swimming).
Location 2: Acter Industrial Park
Accessibility: Helicopter, boat, or foot/swim.
Description: On a capsized ship here, it's on top of the Southwestern-most box thing.
Location 3: Northwood
Accessibility: Helicopter, boat, or foot/swim.
Description: On some rocks in the water here. Sorry about my pictures. It was midnight in the game and kind of hazy.
