Grand Theft Auto IV plays in Liberty City, a fictional town, modeled after New York City. Unlike the Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto 3, the Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto 4 is alot more based on New York City.
Districts
The city is split in 4 districts based on real boroughs of New York City.
- Algonquin (Based On Manhatten)
- Bohan (Based on The Bronx)
- Broker (Based on Brooklyn)
- Dukes (Based on Queens)
Independent State:
- Alderney (Based on New Jersey)
Catch Phrases
As most cities, it has it's own catch phrases, which were showing on the Official GTA 4 homepage. Here a few, each starting with "Welcome to Liberty City".

Additionally, the Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition has a vanity license plate in the package, that says "Worst place in america" on it.
